Near South

River West, Bucktown, & Wicker Park

Near West is an emerging area in the city of Chicago. It is in a transition period of fighting off old factories and business and replacing it with new residential developments. As a result real estate prices are rising in River West, West Loop, Wicker Park, and Bucktown neighborhoods.

River West, also associated with the West Loop, is seeeing major changes and is quickly becoming a residential community. New highrise condo buildings are being built and old warehouses are turning into new lofts. This area offers a cheaper housing option than the River North community while still providing quick access to downtown and the lake. The neighborhood also encompasses 'Greek Town' which has authentic restaurants, bars, and shops. The United Center home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, also can be found close by.

Wicker Park and Bucktown are two other communities in the Near West. The atmosphere is filled with character, artistry and the diversity of its residents. The area is often associated as the art district of Chicago. You can find many art galleries and even an annual Art Festival, where artist can display and sell their work. Wicker Park and Bucktown are attracting a younger demographic, who are taking advantage of the affordable housing and good public transportation in the area.
